My First Vendor Market

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, I officially stepped into the world of vendor markets, and what a day it was! The market took place at the little school I attended as a child, which brought back so many fond memories. Being in such a familiar environment surrounded by people I knew made it the perfect setting for my first event.

The Unexpected Pivot

Leading up to the market, I had grand plans to showcase several embroidered items. Unfortunately, life had other ideas—my embroidery machine broke just two weeks before the big day. I was so disappointed, but instead of letting it get me down, I pivoted. I turned to my trusty sublimation printer and Silhouette machine to create a variety of other handmade items.

I ended up crafting a range of beautiful products, including earrings, car coasters, cups, tote bags, and keychains. To embrace the holiday spirit, I also made Christmas-themed items like hair bows, towels, and ornaments. While it wasn’t what I originally planned, I was proud of what I brought to my booth!

The Market Day

The weather was less than ideal—it was bitterly cold and rained throughout the day. Thankfully, my husband was with me every step of the way. He helped set up, managed the booth with me, and made the day so much easier. Despite the weather, the market was buzzing with energy, and I enjoyed every moment of interacting with customers and seeing people excited about my creations.

Lessons Learned

As with any first-time experience, there were plenty of lessons to take away:

  1. Invest in a Tent with Walls: The cold and rain made me realize how valuable half and full walls for my tent would be. They’d provide much-needed protection and make my booth more inviting.

  2. Embroidery Sells Fast: Despite having only a few embroidered items, they sold quickly! I’m confident that if I had brought more, they would’ve been a hit.

  3. A Dedicated Checkout Station is Key: Setting up a designated space for handling payments and packaging would streamline the process and make it easier for customers.

  4. Add an Outdoor Rug: A rug would make the booth feel cozier and more polished, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

  5. I Love Vendor Markets: Above all, I learned how much I truly enjoy selling at markets. The interactions, the creativity, and the community make it an experience I want to repeat again and again.

Looking Ahead

Despite the challenges, my first vendor market was a success, and it gave me so much to think about for the future. I’m already brainstorming ways to improve my setup and expand my inventory. I can’t wait to sign up for more markets and continue growing Dupeire Designs.

If you stopped by my booth that day, thank you for supporting my small business and making my first market experience so special. Here’s to many more markets in the future!
